Air Pollution is killing millions of Indians each year silently but awareness among citizens is low due to lack of data. The Climate Thinker has designed and developed low-cost air quality monitoring sensors for The measurement of air pollutants. The monitors measure PM2.5, PM10, Temperature, and Relative Humidity. Together with West Midnapore Cyclers Club, we deployed the monitors through bicycles to measure the level of pollution in Midnapore city.
The result indicates a high level of air pollutants, 3-5 times than WHO recommended level over Midnapore city. A similar air quality monitoring network will be placed in different cities over West Bengal. The program was also associated with an awareness drive on air quality and how to adapt to poor air quality. Young citizens were trained in air quality measurement and monitoring practices.
