Why We Are Doing This
Climate change is no longer a distant environmental issue—it is shaping the lives of young people every day. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, air pollution, biodiversity loss, and water scarcity are becoming increasingly common, yet climate education in schools often remains limited to textbooks and theoretical concepts. While students learn definitions and scientific terms, they rarely have the opportunity to observe climate change in their own surroundings or understand how these challenges affect their communities. We believe that meaningful climate education goes beyond memorising facts. Young people need opportunities to investigate, question, analyse, and solve real-world environmental problems. By connecting classroom learning with practical experiences, we aim to nurture climate literacy, critical thinking, and environmental stewardship, enabling students to become informed citizens capable of building resilient communities and sustainable cities.
What We Are Doing
Our Climate Smart Education initiative transforms climate education into a hands-on learning experience where students explore real-world environmental challenges through workshops, experiments, field observations, and collaborative activities. They learn to measure climate parameters, observe biodiversity, and understand how climate change affects their everyday lives. The programme also introduces topics such as heatwaves, water conservation, disaster preparedness, waste management, biodiversity, and nature-based solutions, encouraging students to think critically, identify local challenges, and develop practical solutions. By connecting science with action, we are nurturing confident, climate-conscious young leaders.
Where We Are Doing This
The Climate Smart Education programme is being implemented across schools and educational institutions to bring practical climate learning directly into classrooms and surrounding communities. Through school-based workshops, environmental investigations, and field activities, students connect scientific concepts with the realities of their local environment. The programme is designed to be scalable, enabling schools in both urban and rural areas to integrate experiential climate education into their learning ecosystems and prepare students to address the environmental challenges of the future.
How Much Impact We Are Having
Our Climate Smart Education initiative is redefining how climate change is taught by transforming students from passive learners into active climate problem-solvers. To date, we have trained more than 300 students through hands-on workshops, scientific investigations, collaborative discussions, and field-based learning experiences. Students develop practical skills, curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking while learning to recognise climate change in their everyday surroundings and explore solutions that strengthen community resilience. By fostering climate literacy alongside problem-solving and leadership skills, the programme is nurturing a generation of environmentally conscious young people prepared to drive climate action. As the initiative grows through new partnerships and schools, it has the potential to empower thousands more students to build sustainable, resilient, and climate-smart communities.
